The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Artur Lastayev and Prosecutor General Berik Asylov concluded a memorandum on mutual cooperation.
The parties express their interest in close cooperation in the field of human rights protection.
«This year is marked by the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our state has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the rights of values enshrined in this document. In order to establish a systematic work in this direction, to coordinate our work and to ensure more effective protection of human rights and freedoms, including the prevention of torture, as well as to optimize the consideration of applications, it is proposed to conclude a Memorandum», said the Ombudsman.
In turn, the Prosecutor General said that the protection of the rights of citizens is a priority task of the prosecution authorities, and this work is carried out continuously. According to him, since the beginning of this year, the Prosecutor's Office has been vested with exclusive competence to investigate torture. Regulations have been adopted in the implementation of this authority. Correctional institutions are provided with continuous video surveillance, where prosecutors can monitor online.
He also added that the signing of the memorandum would give a new impetus to cooperation.
For his part, Artur Lastayev expressed confidence in the strengthening of cooperation between the prosecutor's office and the Office of the Ombudsman for the Protection of Human Rights.
It should be noted that the cooperation, among other things, involves the exchange of information on violations of human rights and freedoms, consideration of complaints and joint visits to penitentiary institutions.
