«Demand 33 ballots». The Ombudsman commented on the fake the referendum

The Commissioner for Human Rights in Kazakhstan, Elvira Azimova, commented on the mailing list on the Internet about the rules of voting in the referendum.

«Today I heard an audio message in one of the chats: «Come to the polling station and demand not one ballot, but 33 ballots». That is, taking into account the number of proposed amendments. But earlier there was a very clear explanation that there is one question regarding the entire package of amendments. Therefore, such an explanation is not only wrong and unreliable, but it purposefully destroys civic activity and readiness to take part in the referendum», Azimova said at a briefing.

According to her, the author of the same audio message urged citizens who received ballots to make a note on a piece of paper about what standards they disagree with the amendments.

«Such postings automatically invalidate the bulletin. Although the message says: «Come to the referendum so that someone else doesn't use your vote», in fact, if you listen to the whole message, people are purposefully pushed to make their vote invalid», Azimova pointed out.

She stated that citizens should receive reliable information from all sources: both from the state and from civil society, so the authors of such mailings «should be held accountable».
