Nur-Sultan, June 1, 2022 – Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova met with the UN Assistant Secretary-General, Deputy Executive Director of the UN Structure for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women Structure) By Anita Bhatia.
The Ombudsman and the UN Assistant Secretary-General discussed the prospects of creating a gender knowledge center. According to A. Bhatia, the opening of such a center will allow Kazakhstan to successfully put into practice the goals of the «Tools for Measuring Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment» (GEWE) program and implement the tasks of preventing human rights violations against women and girls also through the dissemination of knowledge.
«The work of the center will allow women and men to gain sustainable knowledge about human rights and use them to achieve a sustainable economic and social position in society while participating in the development, coordination, and decision-making process. If the project is implemented with the strategic support of the UN, we will be able to provide a systematic approach to the issue of promoting knowledge about equality and non–discrimination for everyone, which is important in order to prevent violence against women and children», E. Azimova added.
