The issue of ensuring peace and security should be with the participation of women. This was stated by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova.
«In the situation of a hard lockdown, in which we found ourselves in 2020, we outlined a question for the Government that we still need to return to that recommendation, to implement the recommendations of developing a separate plan, and on December 24 last year such a plan was adopted. And now, almost after the events that took place in the country, we see that the relevance of this plan is now on the agenda No. 1 more than ever. We say that the issue of ensuring peace and security should be with the participation of women», Elvira Azimova said in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of a round table at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic «Women, peace, and security».
The Speaker noted that the Government's plan contains 16 measures that will be implemented by law enforcement agencies – defense and emergencies agencies.
«I think the Parliament and the Government should pay attention to this in this vein, taking into account the results of the investigation (of the January events) that will take place. This also applies to the personnel of law enforcement agencies. We have very few women in law enforcement. I think that equal opportunities for women who have decided to work in law enforcement agencies, should be aimed at using non-destructive means, namely negotiation mediative means, this should become a common practice of law enforcement agencies. Of course, the issue of life and security to a certain extent, taking into account the risks, involves the use of special means and weapons, but it should be transparent and clear to the public. This is also a question of changing legislation», Elvira Azimova added.
