LIFE CONVICTS WERE ALLOWED TO WORK IN KAZAKHSTAN FOR THE FIRST TIME

This is the only prison in the country where those sentenced to life imprisonment are sitting. Products from behind bars are overalls. «This is the first time in the history of the penal enforcement system that we are attracting convicts for life to employment. We have equipped the working chambers ourselves. Before that, there were no such cameras, we converted them», said Nurbek Kabdikarimov, head of the institution of the Criminal Code 161/3.

«The issue of work has been resolved, this is already a huge advance. Personally, it gives me a lot. It's not just a pastime, earning money, or something else. You already understand that you are not just dependent on society, taxpayers, but you know how to do something yourself», Maxim Khatmullin, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Criminal Code 161/3, said.
It's too dangerous to bring sewing teachers to prison. Convicts with tailored skills work as craftsmen. Sergey Pakhtusov had his studio in-between "incarcerations". Now he transfers the experience to his cellmates.
