THE OMBUDSMEN OF THE EURASIAN ALLIANCE TOOK PART IN THE FIFTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS

On October 12, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Problems of human rights protection in the Eurasian space: exchange of best practices of Ombudsmen".

Since 2017, the conference has been held annually, on the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova.

More than 250 participants took part in the conference in a hybrid model (online-offline), including judges of the Eurasian Economic Court and representatives of international organizations, more than 40 national and regional human rights ombudsmen and other national human rights institutions, representatives of state bodies and non-governmental organizations, scientists and specialists in the fields of social service and environmental protection.

In her address to the participants, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet noted the following: «Amid COVID-19, our world continues to suffer from climate change, environmental pollution and loss of biodiversity. This triple planetary crisis, created and sustained by human actions — and inaction - also has a direct and devastating impact on a wide range of rights, including the rights to adequate food, water, education, housing, health, development, and even life itself. We are going through a crucial moment. It's time to get better, to build the future we want for people and our planet».
