Children's Day falls on the first day of summer. It has been celebrated all over the world since 1950. This year marks exactly 72 years since the decision was made to approve International Children's Day under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). Since then, the protection of the rights, life, and health of children has remained one of the priorities of the UN.
The first and main international legal document in which the rights of the child were considered at the level of international law was the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN in 1959. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the UN on November 20, 1989. These are two basic international treaties, based on which special international treaties on certain issues of the protection of the rights of the child were subsequently adopted. Kazakhstan is a party to the Convention and in 2002 adopted a separate Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the rights of the child in the Republic of Kazakhstan".
The Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishes the protection of children as one of the important tasks of the State. Every child has the right to a happy and healthy childhood and youth, quality education, and development.
Every child is born to live in a family. And if a difficult situation has deprived him of this right, we are all obliged to give him new hope and warmth.
Dear children and parents, we
sincerely congratulate you on International Children's Day!
With sincere wishes, Elvira Azimova and the staff of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
