Training with the participation of the Ombudsman on the provision of social and legal assistance to foreign convicts

On April 12, 2021, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Kazakhstan, Elvira Azimova, took part in online training for employees of the penitentiary system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic: "Improving the professional training of employees of the Criminal Justice System in the field of social and legal support of foreign convicts in the Republic of Kazakhstan".

The event was organized by the Kostanay Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after Shrakbek Kabylbayev, the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights, and the representative office of the non-governmental human rights organization "Penal Reform International" (PRI) in Central Asia.

The Ombudsman spoke about her activities and the activities of the national preventive mechanism in the form of monitoring visits by representatives of civil society to institutions of the penitentiary system, including those related to the implementation of Kazakhstan's international obligations to comply with ratified international treaties and the standard minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners, as well as cooperation with state bodies and UNICEF offices, The International Organization for Migration in Kazakhstan and the regional office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for the protection of the human rights of children caught in the migration processes of foreign citizens and stateless persons, including those serving criminal sentences in penitentiary institutions of Kazakhstan.
