PARTICIPANTS OF THE LITERARY CONTEST OF PRISONERS IN KAZAKHSTAN TELL ABOUT THE HAPPIEST DAY AND REMORSE

At the end of 2020, a literary competition was held in Kazakhstan's colonies. All prisoners from institutions of all modes of detention could participate. The convicts were asked to write a poem or essay on one of three topics: "Remorse", "Letter to the future", "Happy day in my life-2020".

The competition was held from November to December last year with the support of the Institute of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the International Prison Reform in Central Asia, and the project Vnimaniye.kz.

519 works were submitted for the competition, 490 people from 73 colonies and isolation wards took part. "Mediazona" publishes excerpts from the works of some convicts. Out of respect for creativity, the editors kept the spelling and punctuation of the original works.
