On August 5, this year, under the leadership of the Ministry of trade and integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an online seminar on the development of the pig industry in Kazakhstan was held, with the participation of representatives of a large Swiss company SUISAG.
As the Vice-Minister of trade and integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. K. Torebayev, noted in his welcoming speech, today's meeting is one of the events of the implementation of the agreements reached following the meeting of the Head of State with Swiss President Uli Maurer on November 22, 2019.
At the same time, it is important to note that in general, the seminar was held as part of the organization and preparation of the kazakh pig industry to enter, first of all, the Chinese market.
In addition, The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Switzerland - Bakayev Alibek Asetovich, General Director of JSC “CTPD “QazTrade” - Abenov Arman Dauletovich and representative of the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As A. Abenov noted, cooperation with Switzerland is one of the most promising areas for us.
The potential for increasing pork exports is estimated at between 780 – 1,100 million us dollars, mainly to the Chinese market.
It is important, that for the industry the significant moment was the signing in September of last year Protocol with the State customs office of the PRC on requirements for export of frozen pork to China, was negotiated and a veterinary certificate, is expected to enable Kazakhstan pig farms in the Registry of the General customs administration of China.
At the beginning of June this year, the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan sent an updated list of 34 Kazakhstani enterprises (30 meat processing and 4 pig breeding) to the GTU of China.
Another, no less important advance was the receipt in may of this year of the certificate of the International epizootic Bureau that Kazakhstan is recognized as a country free from classical swine fever.
Thus, today have been created all the necessary base for exporting frozen pork to such a large market as China.
During the seminar, the representative of SUISAG company, Mr. Matteo Aepli, told the representatives of the Kazakh pig industry about the existing opportunities for exporting pork to the People's Republic of China, the existing obstacles and barriers, as well as certification issues and other opportunities for increasing exports. In addition, Mr. Aepli shared the experience of Switzerland in the development of pig breeding activities and current achievements.
He also presented his recommendations on the development of the pig industry in Kazakhstan. Such as:
- increased productivity with a better level of animal health (productivity growth), the use of artificial insemination technology (currently there is no center for AI) and the introduction of genetics;
- improvement of the existing pig stock (issue +50%);
- support production through knowledge sharing, training and infrastructure development ;
- training of a new generation of specialists together with Kazakh universities;
- creation of new farms with new livestock.
Currently, the company's pilot project to conduct a training seminar for pig breeders in Kazakhstan with a focus on genetics, artificial insemination and health has been submitted to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The proposal also included the need to create a Kazakhstan pig breeding center (based on the Swiss model). About 20 Kazakhstani enterprises took part in the seminar.
The seminar was arranged by the Ministry of trade and the integration of Kazakhstan, Embassy of Kazakhstan in Switzerland, co-organized by JSC “CTPD “QazTrade”, Ministry of agriculture and trade office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan.
