This measure was taken by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to prevent an increase in prices for fruit and vegetable products. In general, 995 meetings of regional commissions were held in 6 months of 2023, as a result of which 298 unproductive intermediaries were eliminated.
As part of the existing mechanisms to curb seasonal price growth in the first half of the year, vegetables from pre-formed stocks were sent to the market. The total volume of such stocks in the off-season amounted to 139.4 thousand tons of vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage), which were released to the market at indicative prices to smooth seasonal price fluctuations.
In order to prevent a shortage of vegetables, MTI is working on the monthly formation and analysis of the commodity balance, regular analysis of electronic invoices is carried out, work has begun to increase the transparency of settlement procedures to identify and eliminate intermediary schemes.
Indicative prices for all socially significant food products have been developed and agreed with local executive bodies; to protect domestic producers from dumping of imported products, a mechanism has been introduced to establish a minimum wholesale price for imported food products from abroad.
