Elements of the railway transport infrastructure will be evaluated according to the new conditions

On April 22 of this year, amendments to the technical regulations of the Customs Union «On the Safety of Railway Transport Infrastructure», approved by the Members of the EEC Council on March 30, 2023, came into force.

Thus, in accordance with the technical regulations, the safety of railway transport infrastructure facilities, i.e. bolts, nuts, sleepers, etc., must be ensured, including by mandatory establishment of assigned service life and (or) assigned resources.

This norm caused certain difficulties for designers (manufacturers) when passing conformity assessment procedures, since it is practically impossible to establish a specific service life for these elements.

Now, in accordance with the adopted amendments, the need to establish the assigned service life and (or) the assigned resources of the elements of the railway transport infrastructure will be determined by the designer. The values of these indicators will be indicated in the design documentation.

If the designer determines that the establishment of the assigned service life is impractical, and the consumer (buyer) believes that this is necessary, the consumer (buyer) reserves the right to require the designer to establish the service life.

At the same time, the safety of such elements is not simplified in any way, since the need for maintenance and periodic repairs has not been canceled.
