The world trade organization reports that the Director General WTO Geneva, Roberto Azevedo, Chairman of the WTO General Council the New Zealand Ambassador David Walker, after consultations with the permanent mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in Geneva, was circulated to the members a note saying that "we believe that the MK12, as agreed previously, from June 8 to 11, inappropriate."
Earlier, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in connection with the current development of the situation around the global spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus and the Declaration of a pandemic by the world health organization, asked the members of the world trade organization to reconsider the decision to hold the 12th WTO Ministerial conference on June 8-11 this year in Nur-Sultan.
In its address, the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that the current situation does not allow preparing for the Ministerial conference at the proper level, and the continuation of the pandemic regime will put the health of the country's population and participants in the event at risk.
According to WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo, he and the Chairman of the WTO General Council, Ambassador David Walker of new Zealand, plan to hold consultations with the Organization's member countries in the near future, including in the framework of a special session of the General Council, in order to discuss the date and venue of the 12th Ministerial conference.
