The standards were developed to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On National priorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2025".
The developers of 3 standards are the Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology KTRM MTI RK:
- ST RK ISO 37120 "Sustainable community development. Indicators of urban services and quality of life";
- ST RK ISO 37122 "Sustainable cities and communities. Smart Cities indicators";
- ST RK ISO 37123 "Sustainable development of cities and communities. Indicators for resilient cities".
"To measure the effectiveness of the functioning of cities, it is necessary to focus on certain standardized indicators. The existing local indicators are often not standardized, not coordinated or not amenable to comparative analysis by time periods or by different cities," the department noted.
Urban services are services provided by the city, covering the following areas:
- housing and communal services, garbage collection and recycling;
- public safety;
- fire protection;
- roads and traffic;
- rest;
- permits and licenses;
- planning;
- construction;
- rent and maintenance of city buildings;
- water supply, sanitation and sewerage systems, as well as property taxes and utility bills.
"The purpose of the implementation of the projects of 3 standards is primarily to improve the quality of life of the population of Kazakhstan. This is the very sphere thanks to which everyone will feel the changes for the better, since the adoption of these standards will improve the infrastructure of cities as a whole," added the representative of the Kazakhstan Association of Urbanists Q-88.
To date, Kazstandart, together with Q88 - the Association of Urbanists of Kazakhstan, is working on cooperation in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Cooperation and a comprehensive action plan for the implementation /application of national standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of urbanism.
Recall that 340 standards will be developed by the end of this year, of which 131 standards are being developed by experts from 22 TC (8 TC experts were involved in 2021).
