Disruptions to global supply chains, climate change, and population growth in developing countries have made food security issues more urgent than ever. All countries of the world are faced with a rapid increase in food prices, restrictions on trade lead to a further aggravation of the situation for regions experiencing food shortages.
This topic was not ignored at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, which is being held in Geneva these days, chaired by Kazakhstan.
Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov, who is the head of the Kazakh delegation, at the session devoted to food security issues, noted the importance of adopting the Draft Ministerial Declaration on Trade and Food Security and the Ministerial Decision on the non–application of export restrictions on purchases of the World Food Program. This decision will allow humanitarian food supply programs to be implemented in regions experiencing disasters, even in the event of a complete ban on the export of such products outside individual countries.
"I call on all WTO countries to follow the example of Kazakhstan and return to their countries from this conference with tangible results that will resolve the global food crisis," B. Sultanov said during his speech.
The 12th WTO Ministerial Conference is the most important event in world trade policy and will continue in Geneva until June 15.
