The OECD launched a project on Improving Trade Connectivity in Kazakhstan and Central Asia

On May 25,  the Ministry of Trade and Integration, together with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) conducted a seminar presenting the "Improving Trade Connectivity in Kazakhstan and Central Asia" project.

The project's launch started with the OECD presenting key findings from its regional work on trade linkages in Central Asia. The event was attended by representatives of responsible government agencies, the OECD, Ambassadors of OECD member countries and other representatives of international organizations.

The development of trade relations is one of Central Asia's most pressing challenges. As part of the project, the OECD will provide Kazakhstan and other countries of Central Asia with analytical and practical recommendations on economic policies and instruments that will maximize the use of existing opportunities for the development of trade relations and further international integration.

The study will complement the assessment of problems in the field of trade and transport connectivity and cargo transportation, carried out by the OECD as part of the first phase of the project in 2019, which focused on the transport connectivity of the countries of Central Asia. The results of the first phase of the project can be found on the website of the International Transport Forum (https://www.itf-oecd.org/enhancing-connectivity-and-freight-central-asia).

Also, on May 25th, representatives of QazTrade took part in a meeting of the working group on parity assessment in the field of primary conditions for digital business development in Kazakhstan. The peer assessment procedure conducted by the OECD will analyze the quality and availability (including pricing) of digital networks and services and business needs in the field of digital security to develop appropriate recommendations for the development of an enabling environment and legal framework for the digital transformation of business in the country.
