Today is the World Metrology Day!

The science of measurement accuracy may seem far from everyday life to many. But I want to assure you, without this accuracy, the quality of life would be extremely low. For example, when the scales are incorrect or the mains voltage does not correspond to the norm, ordinary consumers suffer huge losses from underweight or broken equipment. And if the same scales are not correct, for example, at the airport, then there are already risks to the safety of passengers.

The accuracy of all devices is checked by standards.

There are already 102 state standards and reference equipment in the reference base in Kazakhstan. Including 53 units of State primary and secondary standards and 49 units of working standards.

By the way, among the countries of Central Asia, the reference base of Kazakhstan has the best technological equipment. In particular, because we use quantum phenomena as samples of accuracy and reliability (previously, astronomical phenomena were considered such). We have four standards on quantum effects in the assets of the Institute of Metrology: the primary standard of the unit of length is an optical quantum generator; the primary standard of the unit of electrical resistance is based on the quantum Hall effect; the primary standard of the unit of constant electric voltage and electromotive force is based on the quantum Josephson effect and the primary standard of the unit of time and frequency is the quantum cesium frequency standard.

Standards based on quantum effects are considered super-accurate because they are provided with natural and fundamental constants that are unchanged over time. For example, the speed of light or the charge of an electron. So the reference clock that stands in front of the building of our Reference Center can be considered the most accurate not only in Kazakhstan, but also in the whole of Central Asia.

A modern and technologically advanced reference base creates conditions for international confidence in the activities of measurement, testing and conformity assessment of products in Kazakhstan. This, in turn, contributes to the elimination of technical barriers to trade and the unhindered circulation of goods and services in the context of integration.

On World Metrology Day, we traditionally honor those who have connected their work with one of the most important industries for the country. And every year we award the best metrologists from all over Kazakhstan! This year we also express our special gratitude to the best of the best in metrology for fruitful work, achievement of high performance in professional activity!

Congratulations to all metrologists on the World Metrology Day!

Peace and prosperity to your families and the accuracy of measurements to all of us!
