Kazakhstan proposed the EEC to suspend the anti-dumping measure on European herbicides

At the suggestion of the Kazakh side, at the next meeting of the EEC Council on March 17, the issue of temporary suspension of the anti-dumping measure against herbicides produced in the territory of the European Union was considered (the anti-dumping measure was established on May 26, 2018).

This proposal of the Republic of Kazakhstan is due to an increase in the cost of herbicides and a reduction in their supply on the market. Including due to changes in the exchange rate and logistics problems from Europe.

At the same time, herbicides produced by companies in the EU are one of the "sensitive" goods for the Kazakh market, occupying about 20% of the total import of herbicides in Kazakhstan.

"We must not allow a shortage of herbicides and jeopardize the quality of the future harvest and, as a result, food security. Therefore, we came out with a proposal to our colleagues in the five to suspend the current anti-dumping measure against herbicides originating from the European Union for a year. This issue will be resolved at the next EEC Board," B. Sultanov commented.

All the EAEU member states unanimously supported Kazakhstan's proposal to suspend the anti-dumping measure for 6 months.

The corresponding decision will be made at the next meeting of the board.
