Starting from 2022, Kazakhstan will introduce a VAT obligation on foreign Internet companies

This was told by Asel Zhanasova, Vice-Minister of Trade and Integration at a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Thus, the VAT obligation will be imposed on foreign Internet companies that sell goods and provide services in electronic form to citizens of our country.

As the Vice-minister explained, there is a different procedure for registering foreign Internet companies from mandatory to notification, the obligation to provide tax reporting is excluded. At the same time, the issue of providing second-level banks with information on transactions to foreign Internet companies is being considered.

"Since there are risks of double taxation of cross - border e-commerce entities, including within the EAEU, we are working on the issue of making amendments to the EAEU treaty regarding the collection of VAT in the implementation of internal electronic trade in goods in the EAEU in order to harmonize the procedure for collecting indirect taxes in the framework of mutual electronic trade in goods and simplify the mechanism for monitoring their payment," Asel Zhanasova said.
