The latest EAEU Interstate Program «Improving the efficiency and reliability of industrial facilities and distributed energy in the EAEU member states» brings the green initiative to the table.
What is distributed energy and what are its benefits for the EAEU member-states?
Distributed energy or mini-grids are small substations, renewable energy sources capable of generating electricity in close proximity to the place of its consumption.
What makes mini-grids special is the ability to operate independently, as well as in remote regions, with limited access to centralized power supply systems.
This type of alternative energy also makes it possible to cover larger territories, which ultimately benefits the countries with vast land area.
Today, the EAEU states meet their need for energy mostly through traditional energy sources. The use of distributed energy facilities corresponds to the international tendency for the use of secure and alternative energy sources.
One of the main problems in the EAEU today remains the deficit of local green innovative technologies. The Interstate Program aims to foster the development of the technological complex and increase the competitiveness of the power engineering industry of the EAEU member-states on the global market. The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council plans to adopt the project in the second half of 2022.
The development of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan is one of the key priorities for the development of the country's energy complex. According to experts, the share of renewable energy sources in the total volume of electricity production will reach 6% by 2025.
Kazakhstan’s participation in the Initiative will stimulate the development of the production of new competitive technologies for energy storage and energy generation.
The coordinated work of the member-states on the development of the EAEU Interstate Program is intended to become a common thread in achieving the strategic energy goals of the EAEU countries. In particular, the Initiate will make room for ensuring energy security and increasing the competitiveness of power engineering products of the EAEU countries on the global market.
