On March 15, in Nur-Sultan, in the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within the framework of the World Consumer Rights Protection Day, a solemn award ceremony was held for representatives of public consumer associations. The awards for significant contribution to the development of consumer rights protection were presented by the Acting Minister of Trade and Integration Yerzhan Kazanbayev.
"Last year, about 30 thousand citizens applied to the department. We have helped to restore the violated consumer rights of about 10,000 people, and explained the legal norms to about 10,000 citizens. The measures taken allowed us to return 249 million tenge to Kazakhstanis, " Yerzhan Kaldybayevich said.
He spoke about the important role of the non-governmental sector in protecting consumer rights. There are more than 50 public associations working in this field in the country. All of them contribute to increasing the level of consumer rights protection. On the part of the authorized body, measures are being taken to establish close cooperation with public associations.
An example of this was the signing in February 2021 of a Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation between the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Association of Legal Entities "Republican Association of Consumers of Kazakhstan", representing the interests of 30 public associations of consumers in 15 regions of the country.
Together with government agencies, work is underway to include public associations in the field of consumer protection in the advisory bodies under the ministries and akimats.
"We hope for the support of the heads of public associations, who have been working for more than 20 years, are well aware of all the legislative gaps and different interpretations in law enforcement practice," Yerzhan Kazanbayev stressed.
He congratulated the participants on the World Consumer Rights Protection Day and presented letters of thanks to representatives of public associations, noting their painstaking, conscientious work in daily practice to protect consumer rights and the well-being of citizens.
