The systemic development of Kazakhstan's stone processing industry is ensured through the consistent implementation of standardization and technical regulation tools.
A key milestone was the adoption of the national standard ST RK 3619 "Products from natural stone. General technical conditions", developed with the active participation of the industry community, including the Union of the Stone Processing Industry of Kazakhstan "QAZAQ STONE". The standard established unified requirements for the quality and safety of natural stone products and also fixed conformity assessment procedures, including matching products with the raw material base of deposits.
Further regulatory development was ensured by integrating the standard's requirements into the Technical Regulation of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the Safety of Buildings and Structures, Construction Materials and Products" (Order No. 435 dated June 9, 2023). This made the provisions of the standard mandatory, ensuring uniform compliance with requirements across the country. As a result, the market has become more transparent and understandable, trust in the conformity assessment system has increased, and product quality has improved.
According to official statistics, domestic production of paving stones, curbstones, and paving slabs from natural stone covers up to 91% of the domestic market's needs. At the same time, the implemented measures have significantly increased the utilization of production capacities and boosted output volumes. In particular, by the end of 2025, the production of granite curbs and paving slabs increased by 30%.
"Our industry covers the extraction and processing of natural stone products and is currently actively developing. Thanks to the introduction of the national standard, production, particularly of granite curbs and paving stones, has increased and has allowed us to almost completely abandon imports. The development of standards has also helped eliminate low-quality construction materials from the market. Technical regulation is a key tool for the development of domestic producers," said Daulet Agzymov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of the Stone Processing Industry of Kazakhstan.
Domestic products comply with both national and international requirements, which expands the industry's export opportunities. Natural stone products from Kazakhstan are already used in major infrastructure projects and are supplied abroad.
