On December 21, 2025, on the sidelines of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg, a Free Trade Agreement was signed between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, on the one hand, and the Republic of Indonesia, on the other.
The agreement provides for duty-free trade on over 90% of goods.
However, for certain sensitive goods, transition periods are provided, during which import customs duties will be reduced in stages over a period of 3 to 15 years. The average import customs duty rate for EAEU exporters to the Indonesian market will be reduced from 10.2% to 2%.
Ensuring duty-free trade will create favorable conditions for the entry of both agricultural and industrial Kazakh goods into the Indonesian market.
In addition to establishing preferential trade regimes, the agreement regulates trade aspects such as trade defense measures, determination of origin, customs cooperation, TBT, SPS, intellectual property, and relevant chapters on legal and institutional issues (general provisions, dispute resolution, transparency, final provisions), as well as separate chapters devoted to e-commerce and economic cooperation between the parties.
Thus, the conclusion of the Agreement will facilitate the development and strengthening of trade relations between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Republic of Indonesia, creating conditions for increasing trade turnover with the Republic of Indonesia.
For reference: Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Indonesia in 2024 amounted to $300.5 million, an increase of 4.9% compared to the previous year ($286.4 million).
Exports from Kazakhstan to Indonesia in 2024 increased by 26.8% and amounted to $120.8 million.
Imports from Indonesia to Kazakhstan in 2024 decreased by 6% to $179.8 million.
