YOUNG GEOLOGISTS OF KAZAKHSTAN ENTERED THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA

Chairman of the Committee of Geology and Subsoil Use of MID RK Bazarbay Nurabayev and Chairman of the Board of «Kazgeology» JSC Galim Nurzhanov met with young geologists, participants of International Olympiad in Geoscience (International Earth Science Olympiad - IESO) which will be held on September 13-20 of 2015 in Brazil.

This year, over 1,000 students from 20 countries will be attended IESO and it is the only Olympiad encompassing all geological earth sciences for secondary school students over 15 years old, based outside the Europe.

In recent years, in Kazakhstan has successfully developed and is gaining the power children and youth geological movement, the Ministry of Investment and Development established a corporate foundation «Young Geologist», the aim of which is to support the young geologists movement in Kazakhstan geologists, geological preparation of pre-university students.

In 2010, the first time ever Kazakhstan Olympiad Young Geologists was organized and held in East Kazakhstan. The positive result did not take long - after the Olympiad, many participants decided on the choice of profession and some of them have already entered to the educational institutions on geological specialties.

The II Kazakhstan Olympiad of young geologists started already in Kostanay. In order to show their skills and try intellectually creative forces teams arrived from Petropavlovsk Semey, Atyrau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, as well as from the Commonwealth of Independent States - Russia, Tatarstan and Uzbekistan. The project has gained not only national, but also international significance, thereby promoting a positive image in the eyes of the international community.

During the III Kazakhstan Open Field Olympiad of young geologists in Almaty region was attended by about 300 children from regions of Kazakhstan, as well as teams from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

International Olympiad on Geoscience is an annual competition, leading among the secondary school students in disciplines such as geology, meteorology, oceanography and astronomy. Students who are the winners of appropriate national competitions are invited to participate in the IESO. This Olympiad is one of the main activities of the International Organization for Educational Geoscience.

IESO aimed at increasing the interest of schoolchildren, to draw public attention to the Earth sciences, to identify talented and gifted students in this area. In addition, IESO is aimed at improving the teaching of earth sciences at school, promoting friendly relations between students from different countries and to promote international cooperation in the exchange of ideas and materials.
