Kazakhstan takes part in an emergency meeting of the OIC

NUR-SULTAN, June 10, 2020 - Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states held a videoconference open emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The participants discussed and agreed on a collective position concerning the plan to extend Israeli sovereignty over the part of Palestine, including the West Bank of the Jordan River.

The first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Shakhrat Nuryshev headed the Kazakh delegation. In his speech, he noted that our country supports the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on international law, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and supports the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, to co-exist in peace and security with Israel.

Kazakhstan calls on the conflicting parties to abandon unilateral steps and resume the negotiation process based on the two-state solution without setting preconditions.

In addition, Mr Nuryshev pointed out that a constructive dialogue of the parties based on non-violence is the only acceptable way to overcome the contradictions between them.

The meeting was organized by the foreign ministries of Saudi Arabia and Palestine under the coordination of the OIC General Secretariat. The delegations from more than 39 countries, including 24 at the Ministerial level attended the meeting.

According to Article 12 of the OIC Charter of March 14, 2008, the Executive Committee is comprised of the Chairmen of the current, preceding and succeeding Islamic Summits (Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Gambia) and Councils of Foreign Ministers (Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Niger), the host country of the Headquarters of the General Secretariat (Saudi Arabia) as well as the Secretary-General as an exofficio member. Open meetings of the Executive Committee are held with all member States participating.
