These contracts were signed within the framework of the implementation of the Agreement on strategic cooperation between Kazakhstan Temir Zholy NC JSC and Stadler Rail AG signed on November 29, 2021, during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Switzerland.

The day before, in Akorda, President Tokayev and Spuhler discussed the implementation of the project for the production of passenger cars in Kazakhstan. Spuhler revealed his intention to increase the level of localization to 35% by 2030, as well as plans to export Kazakhstani products. Swiss company plans to modernize the railcar plant, use Kazakhstani aluminum, and establish a complete production cycle.

Stadler intends to modernize the production facilities and equipment of the plant to organize the assembly of 537 passenger cars for KTZ from 2023 to 2030. The total cost of the project is 2.3 billion euros.

It is expected that the cooperation between KTZ and Stadler will significantly improve the technical condition of the passenger car fleet and increase passenger safety and comfort.

The Swiss company also plans to sign an investment agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan. The Agreement provides some financial preferences, guarantees of stability of the legislation, guarantees of raw material supplies from domestic suppliers, and counter obligations of the investor on technology transfer, training of local personnel, and production localization level.
