Kazakhstan and Poland mark 30 years of diplomatic relations

Nur-Sultan, April 6, 2022 – Today marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Poland.

In honor of this significant event, the heads of the two states, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Andrzej Duda, as well as Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau exchanged mutual congratulatory messages.

Official meetings were held in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Poland in Nur-Sultan and Warsaw, dedicated to the anniversary. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko received Polish Ambassador Selim Khazbievich, while Kazakh Ambassador Alim Kirabayev was received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Marcin Przydach.

"In such a historically short period of time, the partnership between the two countries, which is strengthening and expanding every year, has reached a high level. This is evidenced not only by mutual support in bilateral and multilateral formats, but also by mutual assistance and cooperation in difficult times in the face of global challenges," Vassilenko said.

The Kazakh diplomat thanked the Polish government for its substantial assistance in the repatriation of Kazakhstani citizens since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine. In particular, seven evacuation flights were organized from the airport of the Polish city of Katowice, which enabled more than 700 people to return to Kazakhstan.

The diplomats expressed confidence that in the coming years, comprehensive cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres will continue to expand for the benefit of our peoples. They noted with satisfaction the establishment of regular contacts between the two countries at the highest and governmental levels, as well as the dynamic development of inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The sides stressed the need to deepen trade, economic and investment cooperation. Poland is the eighth largest trading partner of Kazakhstan among the countries of the European Union. In 2021, the trade turnover between the two countries reached 760.4 million US dollars, and the volume of direct investments from Poland into the economy of Kazakhstan in 2005-2021 amounted to 272.6 million US dollars.

There is great potential for the development of promising joint projects in such areas as energy, green technologies, transport and logistics, e-commerce, financial technologies, tourism, agriculture.

Despite the fact that both countries are thousands of kilometers away from each other, they share a common historical fate. The Polish Diaspora is among the 130 ethnic groups that make up the people of Kazakhstan. Today, Kazakhstan's "Polonia" is a "living bridge" between our countries. All the necessary conditions have been created for the Polish diaspora in the country to study their native language, history, culture, traditions and spiritual rapprochement with their historical homeland. In addition, representatives of Polonia actively participate in the political and socio-economic life of the country.

Mutual confidence was expressed in the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation and friendship between the two countries and peoples.
