The Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and France exchanged messages on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Nur-Sultan, January 25, 2022 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi and Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian exchanged congratulatory telegrams on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and France

"We hold in high regard the achieved level of bilateral cooperation, which is dynamically developing in a wide range of areas in the spirit of the Strategic Partnership Agreement as of June 11, 2008," the Head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry noted in his letter. According to Mr. Tileuberdi, France is a significant political partner of our country in the European Union and is among the largest investors in Kazakhstan’s economy. In this context, the importance of continuing dialogue and interaction at the summit level has been emphasized.

Further enhancement of economic relations, implementation of major projects in energy, agriculture, transport infrastructure, digital technologies, as well as education, healthcare, science, culture, and environmental protection were highlighted as priority areas for engagement. "In the context of today’s world and emerging global challenges, we are committed to a close dialogue based on trust and cooperation in the international arena in resolving urgent issues of global and regional security and on the entire spectrum of items on the multilateral agenda," Mr. Tileuberdi emphasized.

In turn, Mr. Le Drian welcomed the joint work on strengthening the strategic partnership of the two states.

According to him, "the successes that we have achieved together, both in politics within our interaction during Kazakhstan's rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in 2018, as well as in investment and high-tech partnership, are founded on our relations based on mutual trust and respect."

The French diplomat stressed that in the context of the recent tragic events in Kazakhstan, "it is highly paramount to work on the sustainable consolidation of the rule of law and fundamental freedoms in order, in particular, to respond to the legitimate political and socio-economic aspirations of the people," and wished the Government of Kazakhstan success in this work.

France was among the first countries in the world to recognize the independence and sovereignty of our country, as well as the first State of the European Union to establish a strategic partnership with it.

Over three decades of diplomatic relations, the two states have achieved a high level of trust and interaction in all key areas, have laid a solid legal framework for cooperation, and have established effective bilateral institutional mechanisms.

France is among the top five largest investors in the economy of Kazakhstan with an accumulated volume of capital investments of 17 billion US dollars since 2005.  The indicators of mutual trade are equally significant – according to the results of 11 months of 2021, it amounted to 2.7 billion US dollars.
