The results of the activity of the Foreign Policy Research Institute in 2020 were discussed in Nur-Sultan

Nur-Sultan, December 25, 2020 – The final meeting on the results of the activities of the Foreign Policy Research Institute  (FPRI JSC) in 2020 was held with the participation of Deputy President of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov, who is also serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tileuberdi.

During the event, Chairman of the Governing Board of FPRI JSC Aiymdos Bozzhigitov briefed on the extensive and comprehensive scientific and analytical work carried out by the Institute this year focusing on topical issues of significant interest to Kazakhstan.

The targeted focus of forecasting and analytical documents, which were regularly submitted to the governing bodies and taken into account when developing practical recommendations for the implementation of current directions of the country's foreign policy, was noted.

These documents covered geopolitics, economy, energy, human rights, ecology, migration, security and other areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

In his speech, the Vice-Speaker of the Senate acknowledged the work of the Institute, noting the high professionalism of its staff, consisting of experienced diplomats, including extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors.

The work of the Institute is based on the provisions of Kazakhstan's Foreign Policy Concept for 2020-2030, which is a program of action in response to modern challenges. In this regard, in 2021, the Institute will have to determine the range of priority areas of work to attain the goals set by the country's leadership.

In his speech at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the urgency of ensuring international security and stability, noting that "sustainable development and progress are impossible in conditions of tension and mutual distrust in interstate relations."

"In the current situation, the issues of ensuring territorial integrity and sovereignty, including the details of their discussion, require special attention. It is also very important to enhance regional cross-border cooperation, as well as cooperation in the field of the joint use of transboundary water resources and combat against drug and human trafficking. The above-mentioned agenda is particularly important in the context of the plans announced by the head of our state to transform the CICA into a full-fledged organization for security and development in Asia," said Askar Shakirov.

Summarizing the past year, Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi noted the satisfactory results of the Institute's activities in studying current trends in global politics, the world economy and international security, as well as the importance of conducting high-quality research of global and regional processes for the effective protection of the country's national interests.

The Institute was recommended to establish closer and regular contacts with foreign institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as similar foreign research centres.

Following the meeting, it was generally recognized that the FPRI JSC has established itself as a "think tank" that provides expert support for the country's foreign policy.
