Meeting of the Joint Kazakh-Uzbek Demarcation Commission

On December 7-11, 2020, a regular meeting of the Government delegations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan within the Joint Kazakh-Uzbek Demarcation Commission was held in Almaty.

The parties continued the preparation of draft final documents for the demarcation of the state border at a section within the Aktobe and Mangistau regions of Kazakhstan along with the Karakalpakstan of Uzbekistan.

An Action Plan for the preparation of draft final documents for border demarcation was agreed, as well as a schedule of meetings of the Commission and a plan of field demarcation work for 2021.

The parties summed up the results of the demarcation work carried out in 2020. Despite the imposed restrictive measures in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the planned field demarcation work was completed in full. In addition, the border markers damaged by flooding after the dam burst on the Sardoba reservoir in May 2020 have been restored.

The talks were held in a traditional friendly and constructive atmosphere.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 2021 in Uzbekistan.
