On the meeting of the Consultative-Advisory Body Dialogue Platform on Human Dimension

Nur-Sultan, November 26, 2020 - A regular online meeting of the Consultative-Advisory Body Dialogue Platform on Human Dimension (CAB DPHD) was held under the chairmanship of Usen Suleymen, Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan,

The event was attended by representatives of the Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Council, the Commission on Human Rights under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, interested ministries, human rights NGOs, as well as guests of the platform – representatives of international partners, including the UN development Program, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the OSCE, the European Union, USAID and the Penal Reform International NGO.

The meeting participants discussed measures to implement the recommendations and review the concluding observations of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to the second report of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights.

The participants further considered ways to improve the institutional frameworks and means of communicating between government agencies and civil society.

Another key topic of the meeting was the issue of socio-political participation of persons with disabilities (Article 29 of the relevant UN Convention).

 In addition, the participants were briefed by the Prosecutor General's Office on the package of criminal law reforms and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population on the promotion of action to combat human trafficking.

Discussions on each item on the agenda were open and constructive, with specific proposals for further interaction between government agencies and NGOs on these issues.

In conclusion, the participants approved the agenda for the next meeting of the CAB DPHD in December.
