The event was attended by the head of the Institute of World Economy and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan, representatives of the diplomatic corps and academic circles, government agencies and students of several universities.
Opening the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Ashikbayev noted that the issue being discussed is relevant and important not only for ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, but also for strengthening long-term security in the entire region and the world. In this context, he stressed that the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site by First President, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, the 30th anniversary of which we will celebrate next year, made a huge contribution to ensuring peace and security at the global level.
As the Kazakh diplomat stressed, our country's experience in the field of disarmament can serve as an outstanding example for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. During the two years of its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018, Kazakhstan firmly and consistently supported a peaceful, political and diplomatic settlement of Pyongyang's nuclear program crisis.
The event was participated by renowned South Korean experts, who served as key speakers, welcomed Kazakhstan's experience in the field of nuclear disarmament and spoke about the approaches of the South Korean government to the problem of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the current state of relations between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
