“Window to Korea” book corner opened at the National Library in Almaty

Almaty, October 8, 2020 – The National Library held an opening ceremony of the “Window to Korea” book corner with the participation of the Representative Office of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was dedicated to the National Foundation Day of the Republic of Korea; the project itself was initiated by the Korean National Library and was implemented with the assistance of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty. Within this project, the library has been equipped with a reading room where visitors can get acquainted with the works of Korean authors, as well as  see and touch traditional Korean art.

Head of the Foreign Ministry Representative Office, Erlan Iskakov, who delivered a welcoming speech, said that from the very beginning, strong friendly relations have developed between our people. At the moment, the Korean diaspora in Kazakhstan is not just a bridge between the two countries, but also an active element in the development of bilateral relations. Political and economic ties between our countries are growing stronger each year. Mr Iskakov also emphasized the contribution of Korean companies that provided all possible assistance to Kazakhstan in the form of humanitarian supplies amidst the raging pandemic. He also congratulated the citizens of the Republic of Korea on their national holiday.

It is not the first time that the National Library of Kazakhstan has held such an event.  In 1994, it held a presentation of Abai's works in Korean; since 2004, the book corners of Russia, China, Pakistan, Turkey, India and Iran have been successfully functioning and developing within its walls. Introduction of such practices motivates the strengthening of cultural and informational cooperation between our countries.
