Geneva, March 14, 2023 – The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO took part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2023 where projects from Kazakhstan have participated in the WSIS Prizes 2023 international competition.
Two Kazakhstani projects were awarded for outstanding initiatives and the use of information and communication technologies for the benefit of society.
ITU Secretary-General Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin and WSIS Chairperson, Minister of Digital Transformation of Slovenia Ms. Emilia Stoimenova Duh presented the award to Mr. Yeldos Auezbekov, CEO of the agricultural insurance service “Agroinsurance” for winning the best project award in the E-agriculture category.
The service was launched in 2019 on the Qoldau.kz digital platform and its implementation became possible due to the digitization of all agricultural lands in Kazakhstan on the platform. With the help of this service, farmers can insure their fields against drought without leaving the office. Payments can also be received online, as the moisture deficit in the soil is determined by the information system based on images of European satellites. The assessment is carried out by the Dutch company Vandersat, while the risks of Kazakhstani insurance companies are covered by world's largest reinsurance companies such as Swiss Re, Munich Re and AXA Climate. Thus, in addition to the Kazakh side, experts from several countries take part in the service. The project is credible, since the service eliminates the "human factor", that is, the entire process of assessing the moisture deficit in the soil, notification, calculation of insurance payments and other mechanisms are automated.
The accreditation service “TechReg” created by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan became the champion in the "Electronic Environment" category.
This service is designed to automate business processes related to technical regulation, state control, standardization, accreditation, conformity assessment (certification) and ensuring the uniformity of measurements (metrology).
It should be noted that along with Kazakhstani projects, the following were announced as champions of WSIS Prizes 2023:
- information system of transportation and provision of regions with vegetables (Kingdom of Bhutan);
- a mobile advisory services project reaching about 1 million small farmers in West Bengal, India, where mobile consultations are provided in several languages;
- Meteobot system of meteorological stations for farming precision (Bulgaria);
- Intelligent Vegetation Analysis System (Saudi Arabia).
