The discussion in Washington focused on Kazakhstan's pivotal role in reevaluating US approaches within the context of the "Global South"

Washington, March 7, 2024 – the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), a prominent American think tank, hosted a panel discussion titled "Rethinking U.S. Approaches in the Context of the Global South."

The speakers included Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the U.S Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Ambassador of Zambia Chimbamba Kanyama, and CSIS Senior Vice President D.Runde.

Ambassador Ashikbayev noted that modern geopolitical realities are characterized by competition between global powers, which is reflected in the approach and interaction with the countries of the "Global South" and the so-called "middle powers." In this regard, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan emphasized the strategic commitment to a multi-vector policy, which has proved to be an effective mechanism of interaction with international partners.

As Astana serves as a bridge between the West and the East, it prioritizes the development of pragmatic and mutually beneficial relations with all global actors, guided by national interests.

In this context, Ambassador Ashikbayev highlighted the potential for expanding a strategic partnership with the U.S. in areas such as critical minerals, agriculture, IT technologies, and more.

Daniel Runde expressed his appreciation for Kazakhstan's constructive foreign policy and its significant role in the international arena. The CSIS representative also underscored the country's remarkable growth and pace of development since gaining independence.

According to the expert, the U.S. should enhance its relations with Kazakhstan across a wide spectrum of issues, including rare earth metals, trade, and energy.

In conclusion, the participants underscored the importance of respecting the interests of all countries, which is a fundamental condition for fostering balanced relations in the international arena.
