Historical novel by Kazakh writer Ermek Tursunov "Mamluk" in Lithuanian language presented in Vilnius

Vilnius, December 13, 2024 - On the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Vilnius County Adomas Mickevičius Public Library hosted a presentation of the book "Mamluk" by famous Kazakh film playwright, director, writer and public figure E.Tursunov in Lithuanian language.

The author’s video message opened the event. E. Tursunov thanked all the participants for the attention to his literary work and expressed confidence that the book will find its Lithuanian reader. According to the writer, it was a fascinating process of research and traveling through the East in the footsteps of the Sultan Beibars.

The Library’s Director Mrs. E.Banionyte emphasized that the book “Mamluk” will become a pearl of the Library’s Reading Hall named after Abai Kunanbayuly.  The hall opened in 2020, and remains the “center of attraction” of Kazakh culture not only in Lithuania, but also in the whole Baltic region.

The book was published under the auspices of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Lithuania with sponsorship funds. The Embassy thanks the Honorary Consuls of Kazakhstan in Lithuania, local Kazakh Diaspora, Lithuanian companies and publishing house "Žara" for their invaluable assistance. Meanwhile special thanks to the Professor of Vilnius University Mr. Antanas Smetona for implementing the translation.

The event participants expressed confidence that the Kazakh literature in Lithuanian language will help readers to learn more about our country’s history and Turkic heritage. The Sultan Beibars is a great example of historical personality reflecting Kazakhstan’s ambitious logo “Born Bold”.

In addition, next year the book will be presented at the annual Vilnius Book Fair at LitExpo.

Members of the Seimas (Parliament), foreign Ambassadors, representatives of the state bodies, academic, public and business circles, as well as Lithuanian media representatives attended the event.
