On the briefing to the Lithuanian media by the Kazakh Ambassador

Vilnius, January 12, 2022. Victor Temirbayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, held a briefing for the leading Lithuanian media, during which he informed them of the current situation in Kazakhstan and the speech of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the meeting of the Majilis of the Parliament.

The diplomat gave a detailed chronology of events, starting from peaceful demonstrations in Zhanaozen to the tragic events in Almaty and other cities of Kazakhstan. He noted that terrorist groups attempted to undermine the constitutional order of the country and carried out mass armed attacks on administrative institutions, police stations, and civilians, including health care workers, firemen, and journalists.

Law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan confronted the terrorists, not “peaceful protesters” as some media outlets distort the story. In the near future, after the completion of the preliminary investigation, the law enforcement agencies will present additional evidence of terrorist aggression against Kazakhstan.

Temirbayev pointed out to the journalists that Kazakhstan was legally justified in asking the CSTO to deploy peacekeepers, which has successfully completed its mission and at the request of Kazakhstan will leave the republic in the coming days.

The ambassador spoke in detail about the appointment of a new government headed by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov by President Tokayev and the Head of State's instructions to further socio-economic development and political reforms in our country.

The diplomat gave assurances of the invariability of the Kazakh-Lithuanian friendly relations as well as of the safety and security of foreign investments in our country. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Lithuania aims at the implementation of all planned activities this year.

At the end of the briefing, journalists received answers to a number of inquiries.
