An outdoor photo exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Capital Day was opened in Užupis, the most popular tourist area of Vilnius.
The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Lithuania, with the assistance of JSC "NC "Kazakh Tourism".
The Lithuanian capital's residents and guests were presented with photos revealing the dynamic transformation of our country, its historical monuments and picturesque places, as well as photos of world-famous Kazakh people.
Opening the photo exhibition, Ambassador of Kazakhstan V. Temirbayev pointed out the main successes of Kazakhstan for 30 years of Independence: economic progress, social development, the role of Kazakhstan in the international security architecture.
The place of an exhibition has been chosen not casually - in summer time the quay of the river Vilnelė is the favourite place of citizens for rest and the center of attraction of tourists. Using a special QR code, anyone can read the description of the exhibition. The exhibition will be on display till the end of July.
On April 1, 1997, residents of the bohemian part of town, mostly artists and poets, proclaimed a "free republic of Užupis" in Užupis. The formally non-existent republic has its own president, government, and parliament.
The "state within a state" is one of the main attractions not only in Lithuania, but in the entire region. Užupis is on a par with Montmartre in Paris and Christiania in Copenhagen in terms of popularity.
One of the main attractions of the republic is a street with translations of the Užupis constitution into world languages. In 2018, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Lithuania installed a plaque translating the Užupis constitution into the Kazakh language.
