The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) provided two sets of the nuclear-derived techniques in strengthening national capacities for the rapid detection of the COVID-19.
The "National Center of Expertise" for quality control and safety of goods and services of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan and the Scientific and Practical Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise and Monitoring of the National Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty receive diagnostic kits and equipment, reagents and laboratory consumables free of charge. These materials are used to accelerate testing that is critical in managing the outbreak. The assistance also includes biosafety materials such as personal protective equipment and laboratory cabinets for the safe analysis of collected samples. The total amount of this assistance is more than 220 thousand euros.
This emergency assistance is part of the IAEA's response to the pandemic and the growing number of infections around the world. “IAEA staff are working hard to ensure that this critical equipment is delivered as quickly as possible where it is most needed,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The cooperation of Kazakhstan with the IAEA has been established since 1994 and prioritizes the peaceful application of nuclear technologies in areas such as human health.
