Kazakhstan devotes important attention to the establishment of international anti-corruption cooperation in order to exchange experience and best anti-corruption practices. In this regard, the role of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in providing anti-corruption education and training is very relevant.
On May 15, 2020, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the international organizations in Vienna, on behalf of the Kazakhstan’s Presidency of the Bureau of the Eight session of the International Anti-Corruption Academy’s Assembly of Parties (AoP) convened the meeting of the (Extended) Bureau via Online which serves as an effective platform for consultations on the Academy's general policy issues.
The meeting was attended by members of the Bureau - representatives of Austria, Malaysia, Nigeria and Slovakia, as well as Chairs of the UN regional groups.
Taking into account the pandemic of COVID-19, the meeting participants recognized the need to postpone the next 9thsession of the Assembly, which was scheduled for June 2020 in Seoul.
Kazakhstan is consistently implementing reforms aimed at countering corruption, which, as the First President NursultanNazarbayev noted, "Undermines faith in the effectiveness of the state and is a direct threat to the national security".
The authorized state body in Kazakhstan for cooperation with the International Anti-Corruption Academy is the Anti-Corruption Agency, which in May 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Academy. This document paves ground to conduct trainings and workshops, as well as other events aimed at capacity building of the officers of the Anti-Corruption Service.
Note: The International Anti-Corruption Academy was initiated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), INTERPOL, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and consists of 79 Parties.
The cooperation of Kazakhstan with the International Anti-Corruption Academy is filled with the practical content: at the initiative of Kazakhstan, a training seminar was organized for employees of the anti-corruption bodies of the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
