Kazakhstan, like almost the rest of the world, lives in a lockdown. But even under such circumstances, the past month has been very intense in terms of foreign policy for our country.
Foreign policy remains one of the priorities of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev's activity, and Kazakhstan remains committed to its priorities at the international level, while the agenda is full of new content.
Over the last month since the introduction of the state of emergency in Kazakhstan, the foreign policy schedule of the President was extremely hectic, although it did not include a single visit abroad.
Since 16 March, President Tokayev has had 10 telephone conversations: with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Council President Charles Michel, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov (twice), Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
In addition, last week, an emergency meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States was held online at the highest level for the first time, and the day before yesterday, the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council also took place online.
For the first time since independence, Kazakhstan's new foreign policy concept included the concept of soft power, that is, our country recognises that it will act with new diplomacy tools and use new resources.
Kazakhstan, as a supporter of the principles of a peaceful and open state, a reliable partner in global and regional affairs, whose foundations were laid by Kazakhstan's First President Nursultan Nazarbayev, will continue its pragmatic and proactive foreign policy aimed at stabilising the post-crisis situation.
