КKazakhstan Strengthens Agricultural Cooperation with Thailand

Astana, September 27, 2024 – Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ermek Kenzhehanuly met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Kingdom of Thailand, Narumon Pinyosinwat.

The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening bilateral relations in agriculture, food security, the development of strategic partnerships, and investment cooperation.

In particular, they emphasized the need to intensify joint efforts to increase mutual trade volumes and expand the range of supplied products. One of Kazakhstan's priority areas is to enhance export opportunities for livestock products. A list of enterprises for certification and obtaining export permits for meat and meat products to Thailand, including producers such as "Kazbeef Processing" and "Merke Et Combinaty," has been compiled and sent to the Thai side.

There is significant interest in cooperation to boost exports of crop products and in the fishing industry. Kazakhstan is among the top ten largest producers of wheat and flour, exporting up to 7 million tons of wheat annually, making the Thai market particularly attractive for increasing supplies.

Additionally, Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat highlighted the importance of cooperation in agricultural science and education, including joint research and experience exchange. Scientists from both countries are encouraged to establish contacts for collaborative work in rice breeding and poultry farming.

During the dialogue, it was noted that attracting foreign direct investment and creating joint agricultural production facilities are of great significance. To facilitate this, a joint working group on agriculture is planned, which will hold regular meetings to discuss current issues.

“This meeting is an important step toward expanding interstate cooperation in agriculture. We hope for further strengthening of our trade and investment relations,” concluded Ermek Kenzhehanuly.
