Bangkok, August 22, 2023 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Thailand Arman Issetov made a statement at the High-Level Euro-Asia Regional Review Meeting of the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries for the Decade 2014–2024.
Ambassador Issetov noted in his speech that remoteness and isolation from world markets, multiple border crossings, cumbersome transit procedures, inefficient logistics systems, weak institutions and poor infrastructure cause LLDCs to incur substantially higher transport and other trade transaction costs that negatively impact economic growth.
“Kazakhstan, which is the ninth largest country in the world and has no access to the sea, is influenced by all of the above processes. In this regard, the UN initiatives within the framework of the work of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to develop and adopt an updated strategy for international support are of a strategic nature,” said Issetov.
It is worth noting that the Conference is aimed at strengthening partnerships between landlocked developing countries and transit countries. The final materials of the high-level meeting, which will last two days, will be a valuable source of information to take into account in the process of implementing institutional reforms implemented in Kazakhstan.
