The main achievements of Kazakhstan over 30 years of Independence and prospects of Kazakh-Iranian cooperation were discussed by leading research institutes of Kazakhstan and Iran

On October 18, 2021, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Iran a webinar was held on the achievements of the Republic of Kazakhstan over 30 years of Independence and the development of Kazakh-Iranian relations, with the participation of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the Nursultan Nazarbayev Foundation (IMEP) and the Institute of Political and International Studies (IPIS) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, as well as the Embassies of Kazakhstan and Iran.

The main speakers of the webinar were the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Iran A.Orazbay and the Director of IMEP E.Saltybayev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran - President of IPIS M.Sheikholeslami and Ambassador of Iran to Kazakhstan M.Saber, former Iranian Ambassador to Kazakhstan M.Damirchilu and former Iranian Ambassador to Turkey A. Bigdeli, as well as experts from two institutes.

The agenda of the webinar, which consisted of two panel sessions, included issues of development of Kazakhstan and its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as issues of regional security and prospects for cooperation.

As the most important achievement of Kazakhstan was called the country's historical contribution to strengthening global security due to the abandonment of the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons at that time and the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site at the dawn of Independence.

Along with this, a high assessment was given to other peace initiatives of Kazakhstan, initiated by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev, including the convening of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the Congress of World and Traditional Religions, the provision of the Astana platforms for resolving the Syrian crisis, creating a nuclear-weapon-free zone, negotiations in Almaty on Iran's nuclear program and many others.

The effectiveness of the decisions taken on the socio-economic development of Kazakhstan and the successful implementation of reforms in the country were called the key to today's prosperity of Kazakhstan and its leadership in the Central Asian region.

High reviews were given to the reforms carried out to date by the President K.K. Tokayev.

The fundamental factor in the development of Kazakh-Iranian relations, despite all the challenges, was the absence of political differences at the highest level between Iran and Kazakhstan since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The participants of the webinar emphasized the important role of both states in ensuring regional security, especially in the Caspian region.

Taking into account the beginning of the procedure for accepting Iran to the SCO as a full member of the Organization, the speakers noted the need to develop a new format for bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including to prevent new challenges associated with the events in Afghanistan, with the growing threats of terrorism and extremism
