On 3 July 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, B. Atamkulov, visited the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, where he familiarized himself with the enterprise’s operations, production cycle, and export potential.
The Complex is currently the largest copper producer in Central Asia and accounts for approximately 90% of Uzbekistan’s silver production and around 20% of its gold production.
During the meeting with the Chairman of the Management Board of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, A. Khursanov, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan cooperation in the mining and metallurgical sector, the implementation of investment projects, the modernization of production facilities, as well as opportunities to expand industrial cooperation with Kazakhstani enterprises.
Atamkulov noted that the Presidents of the two countries had set the goal of increasing bilateral trade to 10 billion USD. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of expanding the range of goods traded between the two countries by introducing new product categories, including mining products with strong export and industrial cooperation potential. This would contribute to increasing mutual supplies, diversifying bilateral trade, and strengthening industrial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
For his part, A. Khursanov briefed the Ambassador on the Complex’s current operations, the implementation of its investment programme, prospects for expanding production capacity, and the key priorities for the enterprise’s further development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further expanding cooperation, including the implementation of joint investment projects and the consideration of arrangements for supplying Kazakh coal to the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex.
