President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K.Tokayev was elected Head of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea

On September 15, 2023, a meeting of the Council of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held in the city of Dushanbe (Republic of Tajikistan).

This event once again confirms the cohesion of the Central Asian states in the direction of solving water-related problems and integrating the countries of the region to strengthen the role of IFAS in this process.

During the meeting, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was elected head of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea for a period of three years.

Following the meeting, the decisions of the Council of the Heads of the IFAS Founding States were signed, as well as the Dushanbe Statement.

We remind you that the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was established in 1993 by the heads of Central Asian States to overcome and solve the environmental crisis and improve the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin.

In 2008, IFAS received observer status at the UN General Assembly. In March 2023, the IFAS delegation took part in the UN Conference on Water Resources, which was held in New York under the co-chairmanship of Tajikistan and the Netherlands.

In 2023, IFAS celebrates 30 years since its creation.
