Bulgaria Interested in Expanding Cooperation with Kazakhstan in Technical Education and Science

Sofia, October 24, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan Viktor Temirbayev visited Sofia Technical University.

During the visit, the Ambassador met with Prof. Dr. Georgi Venkov, Rector of the University. Taking this opportunity, Mr. Temirbayev congratulated the university’s leadership and academic staff on the 80th anniversary of the institution.

The parties discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of technical education and scientific research, expressing confidence in the significant potential for joint academic mobility projects, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), engineering, and digital transformation.

Ambassador Temirbayev briefed his counterpart on the initiatives of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aimed at advancing cutting-edge technologies and the development of AI in Kazakhstan.

Earlier this month, during the First Meeting of the Council for the Development of Artificial Intelligence, the Head of State announced the creation of a specialized research university focused on AI, which will become a center for science, innovation and international cooperation. The university’s technological foundation will be built upon the Alem AI platform, which has already proven itself as Kazakhstan’s national hub for AI development.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to maintain working contacts on all issues identified during the meeting.

Since 2018, the Abai Cultural and Educational Center has been operating at Sofia Technical University.

The Center has become an important platform for cultural and educational exchange, regularly organizing events dedicated to Kazakh literature, culture and traditions, thereby contributing to the strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Bulgaria.
