Kazakhstan provides humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan

On April 15, 2023, Serik Zhumangarin, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, visited Kabul on a humanitarian and trade mission. A total of 5,403 tonnes (81 wagons) of humanitarian cargo consisting of foodstuffs was delivered by rail to the Afghan capital.

“On instructions from the President, we have come to Afghanistan to deliver humanitarian aid from the people of Kazakhstan to the Afghan people. The international community and, in particular, Kazakhstan cannot leave the Afghan people, who are in a difficult situation, without help. Our humanitarian mission is taking place during the holy month of Ramadan, and during this blessed time for all Muslims, let me wish peace and serenity to everyone,” said Mr. Zhumangarin.

As part of the visit, Mr. Zhumangarin met with acting Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industry Nuriddin Azizi, Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar and Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki.

“Kazakhstan is one of the few countries that have maintained its diplomatic presence in Kabul and would like to see Afghanistan as a stable and prosperous state that maintains peaceful relationships with neighbouring countries. We are interested in further developing the established trade and economic, transport and logistics and energy ties with Afghanistan,” the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister said.

Serik Jumangarin stressed the high potential of the two countries to develop cooperation in trade. He expressed readiness to continue work on increasing trade and economic relationship, including by providing humanitarian assistance.
