A new direction of Kazakh-Latvian cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals

On April 12, 2023 – a meeting was held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Latvia with the Chairman of the Board of "Kalcex" JSC Kaspars Kuprevics.

JSC "Kalcex" is one of the oldest pharmaceutical companies in the Baltic States. Founded in 1920. In 2004, it became part of the well-known international pharmaceutical holding "Grindeks".

During the conversation, a thorough exchange of views took place on the further expansion and strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Latvia in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals.

The Latvian interlocutor shared their ideas and plans for building up mutually beneficial cooperation with our country in this area. Ambassador of Kazakhstan Timur Primbetov stressed the importance and relevance of such cooperation, especially in the creation of joint high-tech production facilities for the production of finished dosage forms, as well as specialized products for the hospital segment, including drugs for intensive care and postoperative care.

It should be noted that pharmaceutical products occupy a significant place in bilateral trade between countries. In 2022, Kazakhstan imported medicines from Latvia for a total amount of more than 11 million US dollars. A fairly wide range of medicines and preparations manufactured by Latvian enterprises, including "Kalcex" JSC, is represented on the Kazakhstan market.

At the end of the meeting, the Kazakh diplomat invited the Latvian colleague to take part in the Astana International Forum, which will be held in early June this year in the capital of Kazakhstan.
