Nauryz in South Africa: Discovering Kazakh Cuisine and Traditions

Pretoria, 12 March 2025 – In celebration of Nauryz, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in South Africa hosted a masterclass on traditional Kazakh cuisine for the spouses of ambassadors accredited in South Africa, as well as representatives of the media and business. The event offered participants not only an introduction to Kazakhstan’s rich culinary heritage but also an opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality that lie at the heart of Kazakh culture.

The masterclass featured a selection of national dishes, including traditional meat and flour-based specialities, alongside signature Kazakh sweets that symbolise the generosity and hospitality of the Kazakh people. Under the guidance of the spouses of Embassy staff, guests not only observed the cooking process but actively took part in preparing these traditional delicacies.

Attendees expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the chance to immerse themselves in Kazakhstan’s gastronomic traditions. They highlighted the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the event, as well as the unique experience it provided in deepening their understanding of Kazakh traditions and values.
